NIMJN organized a one day journathon on COVID-19 on April 20, 2020. Journathon is a day-long hackathon that brings together journalists, coders, designers, health professionals, activists, and developers and hack online available information to create shareable news content.
A total of 26 participants from different professions participated in the journathon.
Dr. Bishwanath Koirala MBBS, MD, CRA, MPH, Consultant Physician, and Medical Coordinator, Om Hospital and Research Centre and Dr. Amar Nagila, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, School of Health and Applied Science and Faculty of Health Science, Pokhara University led sessions on COVID-19 and epidemiological and diagnosis issues in Nepal.
Participants were divided on five groups and are currently pursuing their ideas through collaboration:
- Centralized System to display COVID-19;
- Fact-check | Fake news, COVID 19 ;
- Workers & Migrant Workers, COVID-19;
- Accountability and COVID-19; and,
- Frontline Workers & Awareness.
Mr. Veshaj Joshi, asst. solution architect and project manager SmartMobe Solutions Pvt. Ltd reviewed the group projects and gave feedback.
Mr. Vikrant Pandey, founder of the Fight Back Program gave a situation awareness session to journalists and participants.
At the end of the event, the groups presented their work in progress, shareable news content, ideas and websites they are working on.
